Summary on Grant Application Form |
Today web sites have moved beyond static HTML pages on a single web server. These multi-faceted web sites, comprised of multiple resources and diverse datatypes, are now introducing a major problem in terms of overall site availability, performance and maintainability. The distribution and grouping of data on such systems and the ordering of requests to such systems, is therefore of utmost importance and as yet has had very little research. To this end, this proposal wishes to study distributed multi-faceted web environments and establish a set of data clustering and placement policies which allow data to be presented in a efficient manner. Complementary to this, request scheduling impact each other - this will also be studied. These policies will produce a set of heuristics which will drive an adaptive web-information management architecture. This system will be tested for its ability to scale as demand and data changes over time.
