Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to build a set of fully reliable theoretical and computational tools including more complete and more accurate models of line-shapes, kinetics and radiation transfer and to make these available to the laser-plasma community. With this suite of codes (which we shall make available to the laser-plasma community) we plan to assess the viability of line-coincidence photopumping with particular emphasis on the possibility of using the process to drive an XUV or and X-ray laser in novel experimental geometries. We shall ascertain, for the first time, whether photopumped X-ray lasers are a realistic experimental proposition.
