Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal creates a completely new experiment by combining three areas of our current expertise, Matrix isolation, Photochemistry and Continuous catalytic reactors. A unique high pressure low temperature cell will be used for spectroscopic study of immobilized homogeneous catalysts under actual operating conditions with the possibility of freezing out and characterising reactive intermediates. Objectives include (i) proof of principle with IR studies of carbonylation and hydroformylation. (ii) investigation of a range of catalytic reactions (iii) extension to UV spectroscopy and catalyst development. The project has widespread academic and industrial benefits.
