Summary on Grant Application Form |
The capacitated continuous location problem when the fixed costs at sites is discontinuous but discrete will be investigated. Two variants will be studied first (i) when a customer can be serviced from more than one supplier and (ii) when a customer is allowed to be served from one supplier only. We explore (i) first as this will form a basis for (ii). We intend to provide a mathematical formulation for these problems and introduce some neighbourhood reductions to speed up the process. We then design an efficient heuristic based on variable neighbourhood and tabu search. These two methods need to be adopted for this class of problems. Suitable data structure and efficient reduction tests are vital to the success of our approach. Our ideas will be tested on those data sets used for the uncapacitated case and our results compared with lower bounds which we intend to construct.
