Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposal will seek to establish an understanding of the mechanisms that are present in image transfer in high volume printing processes, including principally flexography, rotogravure and offset, but including screen and pad. The interaction between ink rheology, process operating conditions and image quality and perception will be investigated using experimental techniques on printing presses. These investigations will be supported by the development and application of numerical models to represent the physical interactions at the image transfer points. The combination of experimental and numerical investigations will lead to a more complete understanding of the processes and colour perception for the processes. This will lead to improvements that will a disseminated via publication and to industry in the longer term via a technology transfer network.
