Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal considers the problem of conducting structural modification on finite element continuous models to achieve the desired structural dynamic properties by formulating the inverse eigen value problem for various finite elements most commonly used in industry. This will involve development of analytical relationships between the variation in eigen frequencies and stiffness and mass matrices of the finite elements considered. The work will then establish and use the most appropriate search technique for location of the structure where the required stiffness and mass changes will be applied. The formulations and algorithms developed in the program will be coded in a software module which will be validated by conducting a series of tests on various structures.
