Summary on Grant Application Form |
Perovskite-related oxides are the focus of study in many academic and industrial research groups in the UK due to their wide range of materials properties and extreme tolerance to chemical substitution. Effective communication between groups across disciplinary and institutional boundaries is important in ensuring a cohesive UK research effort in this area. A Network will be established focussed on these perovskite oxides, involving a wide range of groups with expertise spanning physics, materials science, chemistry and earth sciences. Through regular meetings and personnel exchange, collaboration between the groups will develop, resulting in new scientific opportunities such as the application of new techniques to specific problems and closer integration between experimental and theoretical groups allowing exploitation of advances in theory, and the development of more user-friendly computer code. A steering committee will be responsible for ensuring that the network achieves its goal by monitoring the inter-laboratory exchange programmes and ensuring that the meeting are of high quality (budgetary provision is made for inviting international speakers).
