Summary on Grant Application Form |
The US Propulsion Instrumentation Working Group (PIWG), was formed to address propulsion engine development test instrumentation and sensor issues. Members are the Air Force Arnold Engineering and Development Center, the Air Force Wright Laboratory, Allied Signals Engines, Allison Engine Company, General Electric Aircraft Engines, NASA and Pratt and Whitney, with the Ohio Aerospace Institute acting as an administrator to this group. DERA, ABB-ALSTOM Bas Turbines and Rolls Royce are responding to the instrumentation, and to identify and develop this instrumentation ahead of application. These organisations are board members supplying a representative with access to multidisciplinary resources. Observer status is conferred on the MOD, DTI and EPSRC, Cranfield University will supply the executive function in proposing initiatives, development programs and resource bidding. Teaming arrangements and participation in Defence and Aerospace Research Partnerships (DARPs), using the expertise drawn from the UK University and Instrumentation supply chain companies constituencies, will conduct instrumentation development in areas identified by the board. Technology Translators for these constituent parts have been identified (Cambridge University and BICC Thermoheat). Development funding will be solicited from board members, public organisations (research councilc) and from instrumentation vendors (SMEs).
