Novel starch-based materials will be prepared by polymerising intercalated unsaturated hydrocarbon monomers. The resulting materials will have increased functional group availability and this will be utilised so as to prepare novel effect materials suitable for use in various catalytic reactions and as adsorbents for volatile organic compounds and for metal ions.
