Summary on Grant Application Form |
In order to realise the potential of cross disciplinary research the European University Research and Operations Network in Logistics (EURONiL) will bring together research personnel from each partner to develop and implement leading edge logistics research tools and methods aimed at the needs of industry. This proposal highlights the desire for unifying logistics research and operations. It defines logistics in terms of a systems perspective by establishing the inter functional characteristics of logistics and the need for a process perspective. By doing so it is possible to define a top down model of logistics and then populating that model bottom up using essential logistics activities. The network will be initially run under five main themes. 1. Diagnostic and audit tools for individual businesses and whole supply chains with multi sector applications. 2. Modelling and simulation of logistical systems. 3. Measures of performance within a supply chain systems context. 4. Technological trends in the supply chain. 5. Ports as Nodes in Multimodal Logistics supply Chains. The network specifically aims to provide a forum for not only innovation but also invention. Outputs will be in the form of academic and professional papers. The research ideas will also be formative in developing research programmes.
