Summary on Grant Application Form
Make it Molecular is an interactive model-building exhibition for the general public. It will give people the opportunity to make molecular models of everyday molecules by copying models on display - Molecular DIY. People will also be able to create their own molecules and have their picture taken with their molecule as a lasting reminder. The focal point of Make it Molecular is DNA Day. This will be the first Saturday of Science Week 2002 when the exhibition will be taken to a public venue such as a shopping centre within the Stoke-on-Trent area. On DNA Day the public of Stoke-on-Trent will be challenged to make the largest model of DNA in the UK which we hope will be at least 30 feet tall and contain about 200 base pairs. Alongside the base sequence map the names of those who made each base will also be sequenced and all those who contribute' will receive a certificate of participation stating the base which they made and their number in the sequence During the rest of the year the Make it Molecular will be shared between the Daresbury Science Centre and Keele University. A follow up grant is anticipated which will give Make it Molecular wheels allowing the exhibition to travel throughout the country.
