Summary on Grant Application Form |
The chief aim of this project is to develop a range of presentations drawing on the laboratory's historic past. its current research work and exciting future prospects. The effort will focus on greatly expending thepresent web site by adding dynamic material (movies, sound clips and interactive demonstrations. However this work will also be directly useful for stand-alone power-point lectures to be given in the department and in schools. It will also allow stand-alone CD-ROMs to be created; these CD-ROMs would be available to interested schools. We anticipate employing one person at the Post-Doctoral level for one year to carry out this work under the direction of permanent staff members. The ideal recruit for the post will be someone with a PhD, interested in communicating the excitement of Physics to the general public. The scope project will include historic work by J.J.Thompson and Rutherford and others, the discovery of DNA and modern research in Astrophysics, HEP and Solid State Physics.
