Summary on Grant Application Form
Electrical Engineering is a growing area of high quality employment, but it remains difficult to attract young people into this discipline. By providing a stimulating blend of informal presentation, demonstration experiments, and hands-on experience of this fascinating area, the project aims to attract more talented young people into electrical engineering. The project will design, develop and deliver workshops on semiconductor technology to young people in the 10-15 years age range. Workshops will be run in schools, at public events (including British association meetings) and at Glasgow University events (including the Saturday University, which is part of the University's wider access programme).Workshops will be developed and delivered mainly by trainee technology teachers in collaboration with a research associate who is an education researcher and a qualified technology teacher. All workshop developers and presenters will be at third year undergraduate level in semiconductor technology.Workshop material will be modular allowing the experience to be tailored to age group, ability, and venue for each event.
