Summary on Grant Application Form
Elicitation of expert opinion in the form of a (prior) probability distribution is a key task in the application of Bayesian statistics. Yet it remains an area where there is little theoretical development. This project will explore and approach based on Bayesian statistics. The key idea is that statements made by the expert, such as for the expert to express the expected value of his distribution, are treated as data and used to update 'Your' beliefs about the expert's distribution. If time permits, I will develop the method to allow for error in the expert's statement, and/or will tackle the question of elicitation design.
