Summary on Grant Application Form |
The size and complexity of current systems require collaboration and co-ordination of physically distributed teams of people. However, each person or group of people has their own perspectives and understanding of the system. The described setting may generate inconsistencies in distributed documents. Therefore, during different stages of system development it is necessary to manage inconsistencies in order to produce compatible distributed documents. The overall aim of the project being proposed is to allow inconsistency handling of distributed software engineering documents, in particular documents related to UML models. By handling we mean the execution of actions to either remove inconsistencies of the distributed documents, or keep the inconsistencies whenever appropriated. The goals of the project are to specify the different types of actions necessary to remove inconsistencies of distributed UML document models (what), to specify a way of describing the actions (how), and to define the correct moment and order in which the actions should be applied (when). Our approach will be built on existing Internet technologies such as eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and related technologies (eg XSLT, XPath, XMI).
