Summary on Grant Application Form
The original research has shown that supercritical carbon dioxide can successfully extract lipids from sheepskins when they are relatively dry. The object of the secondment is to:(i) identify a stage in Pittards' production process where supercritical fluid extraction can be substituted for an existing operation,(ii) to carry out extractions using supercritical carbon dioxide at Express Separations on batches of skins,(iii) to substitute these skins into the production process at Pittards,(iv) to evaluate the product obtained,(v) to carry out further extractions and substitutions to optimise the process, and(vi) to evaluate the economics of the process and provide a quotation for a suitable piece of equipment for the purpose.
