Summary on Grant Application Form |
There is a need for high resolution manufacturing processes in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries that can be quickly developed from the laboratory to process scale. This proposed research aims to specify a range of new counter current chromatography machines to enhance the separation and purification processes at preparative (making development quantities) and manufacturing scale. This will be achieved by developing prototypes at two levels of scale and performing fundamental research on the operational, chromatographical and engineering variables associated with full-sized process plant equipment. This will be supported by research to understand the implications of operating larger scale machines and to develop separation methods to maximise the potential benefits of the technology. The teaming involves the end users in evaluating the technology and researching operational aspects, their supply chain developing the test prototypes and control systems and the universities performing the fundamental research. Innovation, and technology transfer is an important aspect of this proposal, and if successful will lead to the speedy introduction of new process technology into the industrial sector.
