Summary on Grant Application Form |
New tools for building adaptive geometric integrators are to be developed for the treatment of N-body problems. The emphasis is on the development of general algorithmic tools which would bepotentially useful to a variety of disciplines. In one part of the project , smooth switching methods would be investigated and applied for order-changing in few-body Coulombic simulation. In the second part of the project, a postdoctoral research associate would work together with the proposer to tackle multiple time-scale problems in N-body simulation, such as arise in quantum-classical molecular dynamics or in smoothed particle hydrodynamics. The relevance of the work will be enhanced by direct interaction with applications scientists in chemistry and physics at the University of Leicester, connected to the proposer through their mutual involvement in Leicester's newly-formed Mathematical Modelling Centre.
