Summary on Grant Application Form |
The Photonic Laboratories at the University of Essex have a well defined program of current and future projects which require the use of a 10 Gb/s Bit-Error-Rate Test-Set to enable state of the art experiments to be undertaken. In the optical network area the equipment will be used to evaluate packet switch/router and optical cross-connect architectures suitable to support the multi-terabit capacities (10-40 Gb/s per port) required in future networks. The issues of transparency in the photonic transport network at high bit rates will be addressed looking at switching and 3F regeneration technologies. In the optical transmission area work will focus on the effect of PMD and PMD compensation solutions for high bit-rate NRZ, RZ and soliton transmission.
