Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to take a large - covering, manually written definite-clause grammar and develop for it a set of modular, specialised maximum-entropy models (a product of Experts). Each model will be good at some subtask of parse selection (for example co0ordination, PP-attachment). These models will then be co-operatively trained together (using an algorithm that we shall develop) and evaluate using the parsed Wall Street Journal. The resulting parse selection model will be integrated into the Toolkit and made publicly available. We shall also empirically compare our modular parse selection model with other model combination approaches (such as voting, boosting, bagging and smoothing).
