|
The VF, in conjunction with the two investigators, will carry out two programmes of investigation, each building on previous joint work. Firstly, we will investigate conditions under which group action on trees or other geometric objects extend to actions of the automorphism group, and use the results obtained to make deductions about the structure of the automorphism groups and automorphism towers. Secondly, we will investigate asphericity of (small) relative group presentations. We conjecture that a non-singular relative presentation is aspherical, provided certain subgroups of the base group, determined by the Whitehead graph and its subgraphs, are not finite cyclic or finite triangle groups.
