Summary on Grant Application Form |
Identification of pathogenic micro-organisms endangering drinking water in the UK water supply. Adjusting the existence in the Imperial College pulse generating systems and constructing the disinfection chambers for testing the inactivation of micro-organisms by pulsating electrical fields. Calculating the critical shear stresses for lethal electroporation of membranes for bacteria, fungi and spores. Finding parameters and wave forms of pulses efficient for inactivation of the chosen micro-organisms. Comparative tests of concentration of micro-organisms by the standard plate count and Impedance Spectroscopy. Developing conceptual design of the industrial pulse generator and of installation for disinfection of water.
