Summary on Grant Application Form |
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a relatively new tool for producing depth-resolved images of translucid objects. The two groups involved in this application share expertise in instrumentation for the OCT, with UKC group specialised in medical imaging and the CREOL group in OCT measurements of industrial objects (paints, colloidal media and powders) . Each group[ has particular strengths: UKC group on new OCT configurations and the CREOL group on theoretical aspects of the scattered light in the OCT.It is hoped that by this international collaboration link, the group in Kent will: (1) gain sufficient theoretical expertise to better the approach the challenge task of imaging high scattering tissue and (2) improve the accuracy of OCT measurements and images of the OCT prototype installed at the institute of Ophthalmology in London (by the UKC group). It is also hoped that the collaboration will open up suitable perspectives to allow the group in Kent to diversify their expertise to measurements and imaging of objects of interest for industry, which now lie at the core of the interests of the CREOL group. It is proposed to support a PhD studentship who will spend up to two months in CREOL in the second year. The project is scheduled for four years, with three short visits of the leader of the group in CREOL to UKC and three short visits of the members of the UKC team to CREOL.
