Summary on Grant Application Form |
Much work has been done on the finite element simulation of problems of linear viscoelastic solid deformation, together with the deriving of error estimates. It is now important that this work is developed into the non-linear regime in the context of modern finite element techniques. This proposal seeks funding for a programme in collaboration with experts in: reduced time non-linear viscoelasticity (Schapery); discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods (Wheeler); high order approximations (Johnson and Tessler); and, large deformation (Andre and Johnson). Our aim in the project is to road map the way ahead for adaptive finite element non-linear viscoelasticity simulations, with a particular view to merging adaptive finite theory and non-linear viscoelastic modelling into a coherent framework of use to practitioners.
