Systems theory, albeit in different forms. underlies research undertaken in many different disciplines. In order to improve communication between researchers in these different disciplines, between users of differing systems approaches and to address the needs of the EPSRC call we propose that a network be established by leading members of different research communities and then extended to a wider membership.This network shall be focussed on the use of systems ideas to understand the complex changes to the shape and activities of organisations as a result of the convergence of information and communication technologies. This is a topic that is of concern to researchers from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds and of great import for public and commercial organisations in the United Kingdom.This specific focus will provide scope for genuine participation from a wide range of theory, and allow the commonalities and differences of approach and theory to be exemplified and explored. It will thus provide a solid foundation for an agenda for future research to be defined. It will also provide better frameworks understanding the particular topic: preliminary consultations have already indicated that this would be highly valued by commercial and public sector organisations.
