Summary on Grant Application Form |
Human Factors is defined as the study of human interaction with technology AND the application of that knowledge to address real-world needs and problems. It covers a very wide range of application domains since it is relevant in all contexts where people use technology. It is a branch of science based predominantly on psychology but drawing upon theories and methods from many disciplines including systems engineering. As the digital world becomes a reality with technology converging to provide global information and communication across the planet, it is increasingly important to address the wide-ranging human and societal issues in an integrated and systematic way. In the past decade the domain of human factors has reached a stage of maturity such that it now offers a coherent approach, strategy, methodologies, tools and techniques for the application of psychological principles to human and organisational aspects of the Information Society. The proposed symposium is structured in a novel way as an instantiation of such an approach using the stages of the innovation design cycle as a framework for presentations on the state of the art in human factors concepts, methods and ways of working.
