Summary on Grant Application Form |
A dynamical Ising model with a residence time algorithm will be developed to simulate precipitation in 7000 series aluminium alloys, with the objective of providing a tool for alloy design. It is intended that the model will predict variations in peak precipitate densities and annealing times as a function of composition. Parameters for the model will be obtained from 3-dimensional atom probe measurements of matrix composition, and positron annihilation studies of vacancy concentrations and vacancy-solute interactions. These data will also provide benchmarking for the model to verify its accuracy.
