Summary on Grant Application Form
A major cost associated with waste incineration is the investment in gas clean-up systems to control heavy metals, particularly mercury and acid gases and NOx. Each of these emissions requires separate control mechanisms to reduce concentration levels below legislated emissions limits. This proposal seeks to investigate, at the pre-competitive level, the application of a novel adsorbent -calcium magnesium acetate -into the post-flame gas products to act as a multi-component emissions control sorbent for the control of mercury-HCI-SO2-NOx. The research programme aims to utilise an entrained flow reactor and a large scale fumace-f1ue gas experimental facility to demonstrate the feasibility of the system under laboratory and near full scale conditions.
