Summary on Grant Application Form |
Recent drugs research, based on compounds such as Cefadroxil has resulted in the synthesis of compounds with the grouping R-C=C-S-R in which the S atom and the ' C=C bond are in close proximity. However, there is a problem with the hydrogenation of these C=C bonds under the mild conditions used in the pharmaceutical industry because conventional metal catalysts are poisoned by the organo-sulphur compound. The aim of this research is to overcome this problem by developing the concept of surface templating in order to control the access of the organo-sulphur compound to the active metal surface.
