Summary on Grant Application Form |
Large Eddy Simulation represents a potentially powerful technique for calculating the properties of a wide range of turbulent flows. However it is only just beginning to be applied to combusting flows where there remain a number of unresolved difficulties. The main limitation arises from the need to determine the spatially filtered values of the chemical species formation and consumption rates. For these a novel approach, namely that based upon the evolution equation for the sub-grid probability density function, to overcome this limitation is to be adopted. The result should allow LES to be applied to a wide range of combusting flows.
