Panel History:
Summary on Grant Application Form
Recent and continuing developments in experimental and data-analysis aspects of gas electron diffraction will be exploited by application to key areas of inorganic chemistry Investments in hardware (enhancing experimental capacity), software for scanning (yielding dramatic savings in scanning costs) and computers (for data analysis and computational chemistry) will increase efficiency These and recent advances allow study of larger, more complex and less volatile compounds than was previously possible Applications will therefore concentrate on four areas:1. MOCVD precursors, including amido and imido compounds, correlating properties of molecular precursors with those of their ultimate thermal or photochemical decomposition products;2. metal complexes, particularly phospha-organometallic compounds and sandwich compounds;3. intramolecular interactions, including steric effects in crowded molecules and donor-acceptor bonds;4. boranes and derivatives -carbaboranes and other heteroboranes. including metallaboranes. The research has been planned to involve members of the research groups of the collaborators, so that training in the techniques of electron fraction is a significant part of the work.
