Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is targeted at the development of a novel reactive adsorption system for the removal of molecular impurities of basic nature from gaseous streams. The problem is specific to manufacturing process requiring ultrapure environments, e.g. silicon wafer manufacturing. Extremely low concentrations of impurities require strong chemical bonding of molecules to a sorbent and efficient mass transfer towards sorption sites. this proposal combines recent developments in mesoporous inorganic materials and superacidic solids to create new materials with specific properties. This 18 months project will demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed new adsorption material and the process. The results of this project would form the basis for a larger project in collaboration with the MOD. Additionally the project will develop a unique bi-functional material having wider application in catalysis.
