Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will investigate the effectiveness of the Structured Singular Value (() as a performance robustness analysis tool for aerospace applications. Variations in the aircraft/engine dynamics over the flight envelope will be modelled as real structured uncertain parameters. This type of uncertainty structure motivates the use of (. The research will address the problem of conservatism in the bounds on ( for large complex systems that are subjected to real parameter uncertainty. This will require the design of order reduction paradigms for (-performance analysis.Realistic flight control examples are available at Leicester University that provide ideal problems for this study. ( will be used to determine the combination of uncertain parameters that will cause the worst case deviation from nominal system performance. The information obtained from (-performance analysis will thus allow the efficient scheduling of the different controller designs that are necessary across the operating envelope. The principal deliverable from this project will be a suite of software tools, taking the form of a MATLAB Toolbox. Validation of the new analysis tools will be an integral part of the project and will be enabled, in the first instance, by the presentation of the work at ACRnet and GARTEUR technical meetings considering new analysis techniques for the clearance of flight control laws.
