Summary on Grant Application Form |
Four iso-energetic exchange reactions which are complementary in their functional group tolerance and reaction conditions will be explored: hydrazone exchange (requiring mild acid), Pd-allyl transesterification (mild base), disulfide exchange (mild aqueous base) and alkene metathesis (neutral). Other reactions may be recruited where appropriate.Specific areas to be explored include (i) recursive synthesis of self-templated poly-catenanes based on donor-acceptor and C-H...O recognition; (ii) isolation from dynamic combinatorial libraries of cyclic and branched receptors based on natural products such as steroids, amino acids, sugars, alkaloids, and utilising a range of templates ranging from simple metal cations to natural products.Physical techniques employed will include photophysics, electrochemistry, affinity chromatography, gel phase MAS NMR spectroscopy and FTICR mass spectrometry.
