Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of this work is to develop new oxide ion conductors based on layered lanthanide oxides for use in solid oxide fuel cells and/or ceramic oxygen generators. Materials utilising both vacancy and interstitial ion conducting mechanisms will be prepared and extensively tested to determine their mass transport properties and their compatibility with conventional cathode and anode SOFC components. Layered lanthanide oxides have been selected as candidate materials due to their close crystallographic relationship to existing lanthanum oxide perovskite fast ion conductors.
