Summary on Grant Application Form
Justified by many applications in science, engineering and technology, the parameter identification and Cauchy inverse problems which will be investigated in this proposal require finding unknown parameter variations and / or incomplete boundary data which is inaccessible to measurements from other over determined data measured in regions where they are accessible to the designer. These ill-posed problems will be investigated for a particular PDE which governs a wide range of physical applications such as in heat exchangers, as considered in this proposal. The numerical solution of all these ill-posed problems will be sought by developing an iterative algorithm based on the BEM and the convergence and stability of this algorithm will be investigated both theoretically and numerically. Moreover, to emphasise the relevance to EPSRC's mission, the practical potential application of this algorithm will be tested using real input data which will be obtained by the applicants. Keywords describing research area of proposalHeat Exchangers, Boundary Element Method, Engineering and III-posed Problems, Cauchy Problems, Parameter Identification Problems
