Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research proposed here will bring together a number strands of previous research involving the design and use of the HASE platform and the design of GCD computers, and will bring together computer scientists and computational physicists to their mutual advantage. The aim of the project is to gain an understanding of the factors which influence the performance of QCD computers and to influence future high performance system designs. This will be achieved through the construction of a parameterised simulation model of the proposed UKQCD computer which can be used to investigate the factors which will influence its performance and to support compiler optimisation by providing visual feedback on the efficacy of different optimisation strategies. It will explore the design parameter space of the model to investigate variations in performance against a range of architectural parameters in order to inform the design of subsequent generations of such computers It will also develop new visualisation mechanisms within HASE to allow tailored views of system performance appropriate to computer architects and compiler writers to be presented.
