Summary on Grant Application Form |
This research is concerted wih the development of novel, theoretic=ally sound nonlinear control techniques for application to nonlinear, complex and uncertain industrial processes. The theoretical research win focus on the further development of sliding mode control strategies based upon output information alone to enable the methodology, with its proven robustness properties, to be applied to systems which are norxninimum phase andlor are suc that the structural condtiiors for existence of a unique eqttivafent control are not trivially satisfied by the nominal plant model. The latter two constraints currently limit the applicability of the method. An investigation of associated problems in the sliding mode control of dome systems wilt also be undertaken. The applied re~ will focus on the production of a sigttificant case study to demonstrate the efficacy of the underlying philosophy and the new design algorithms. The development of control laws for a nonminimum phase HIRM aircraft system vial be considered with the goal of implernertiirg them on a flight simulator.
