Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research seeks to move on from the current use of e-hubs for procurement alone and to investigate their future potential for enabling supply chain collaboration.Over the next ten years we propose that e-marketplaces could allow multiple tiers in the supply chain to be connect via information systems that transcend individual companies and operate at a 'meta level', either at a supply chain or even an entire industry level. Areas that will witness dramatic change as a result of this include: supply chain information sharing, contract management, product design and development, supply chain relationships and even whole industry structures. Two strands of research will be undertaken and integrated to investigate the future potential of e-marketplaces and their implications: case studies of existing e-marketplaces, with particular emphasis on their future development, and a forecasting study with thought leaders in IS and Logistics in order to identify the long term (10 year) potential of these marketplaces.
