In this project we will use a Navier-Stokes (CFD) code to predict loading and response of deep-water risers under the effect of corrent. Both forced and free vibration casas will be studied to provide force coefficient data under a range of lock-in and near lock-in conditions. The results will be used to provide force coefficients and correlation lengths for a time domain wake oscillator model of a riser subject to vortex lock-in. This much more computationally efficient, but empirically based method will be used to examine time domain and frequency domain methods of obtaining the structural response of long risers in shear currents. This improved method will be tested in a commercial code.
