Summary on Grant Application Form |
Block copolymers have been observed to adopt a variety of microphase separated morphologies in bulk and form a variety of well-defined aggregate structures in liquid media. During the proposed research programme a novel series of block copolymers containing conjugated electroactive poly(silane) segments will be synthesised according to established synthetic techniques. The properties of the copolymers will be systematically manipulated by varying the molecular weights, volume fractions and chemical structure of the constituent polymer segments . Their self-assembly in various solvents and solvent mixtures will be investigated with a view to generating defined aggregate structures and understanding the underlying driving force for the structures adopted. The self-assembly of the block copolymers will be investigated as thin films; the morphologies of the the microphase separated states will be. investigated. In both cases the effects of self-assembly upon the electronic and electrical properties of the conjugated poly(silane) segments will be investigated.
