Summary on Grant Application Form |
Recent years have witnessed the advent of new nano-scale magnetic molecular materials that can exhibit properties of bulk magi but have the advantage of being both soluble and composed of a single, sharply defined particle size. Their potential for applicatio numerous technological devices has seen an increased worldwide research activity (although the UK currently has a low profile) in field. However, the unpredictability of the current methodologies in their synthesis has led to the search for alternative approaches this proposal, using a project studentship, we seek to develop new molecular magnetic materials by tethering the paramagnetic i together by imido ligands. Specifically, the programme will (i) result in new well-characterised reagents for the transfer of imido gro (ii) generate libraries of structurally precise imido-bridged magnetic materials and (iii) allow correlations to be made between structure of the complexes and their magnetic properties. A more long-term goal will be to employ the well-defined materials as sin source precursors to metal nitrides.
