Summary on Grant Application Form
Recently, we synthesised the first few examples of terminal borylene complexes showing boron in coordination number two. This novel class of compounds is closely related to both carbenes and carbonyls which have a pivotal role in organometallic chemistry. The present proposal targets development of a general synthetic access to this interesting class of compounds. Three different synthetic routes will be pursued: 1) salt eliminatic reactins, 2) derivatisation of suitable precursor complexes (boryl complexes), and 3) borylene transfer. A main target is the synthesis of such comp with both coordinatively and electronically unsaturated boron centres. Besides, the expected rich reactivity of these compounds will be studied in di especially their unique behaviour to act as a source for the borylene moiety B-R will be further exploited. The proposed research described here will significantly contribute to the understanding of a novel class of compounds and will allow for a systemal comparison with corresponding complexes of other main group elements such as carbon or nitrogen and its higher homologues.
