Summary on Grant Application Form |
Degenerate parabolic equations of high (fourth or above) order are the subject of a great deal of current mathematical interest, both because of their physical relevance in describing thin-film flows and because of their fundamental importance as a little-understood class of nonlinear evolution equations. The proposal is directed at developing analytical tools appropriate to the study of such formulations and their application in analysing specific initial-boundary-value problems which play a crucial role in delineating the qualitative behaviour of such models. The results should establish a framework within which a wide variety of open problems can be addressed.
