Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposal aims to establish a NorthEast regional post-genomics network (BioNEt) to promote interactions and innovative research between engineers, computing scientists, natural scientists, life scientists and clinical scientists in the region's universities and industries. The network is designed both to enhance existing and promote new interactions with the objective of increasing research output and improving the resource base. A Strategy Group will monitor challenges and technological developments in post genomics while an Industry Group will facilitate industrial liaison. Information will be communicated and disseminated by two complementary approaches. A programme of advanced seminars and subject-specific workshops will be established with local, national and international experts to inform network members of challenges and emerging technologies, while a dedicated web-site will provide information on regional resources and expertise, and network activities. A training programme will be established with activities that will range from induction courses for new post-graduates, short technology transfer courses for industry and, possibly, new post-graduate degrees. The network will work with the regional development agencies to enhance their inward investment activities. Finally, the network will undertake a programme of public awareness activities via its web-site, a lecture series, interactions with local schools and the Centre for Life.
