Summary on Grant Application Form
Flexible Metalodielectric Photonic Band Gap (MPBG) surfaces are used as electromagnetic surface wave filters to reduce proximity detuning and user's coupling effects in a multiband mobile telephone scenario. Novel MPBG's will be investigated that produce a bandgap at the desired frequencies, while they are small and compact. Experiments will be carried out on several designs in order to assess proximity effects due to near field coupling and antenna radiation efficiency.
