Summary on Grant Application Form |
Engineering constructions impact urban and rural structures in a number of ways. Assessing how much change will be imposed on the environment or how suitable a chosen location will be are crucial issues that require precise and immediate answers . This research is inspired in the old so-called 'scale models', much used in the past to preview what a new construction would look like and how it would fit in the terrain. Virtual Reality prompts a modern use of this concept, while Space Geodesy, and in particular techniques based on the Global Positioning System (GPS), provides the answer to an associated real time positioning and orientation requirement if field visualisation is to be made possible. The challenge is to prove these technologies can be successfully integrated to provide a real time visualisation and analysis tool.
