Summary on Grant Application Form
The world market for MOS controlled power semiconductors is increasing rapidly through legislated stringent requirements of energy savings. The investigators have developed novel MOS controlled power semiconductor devices such as the Clustered IGBT to the proto-type stage, through support from EPSRC and Semelab group. Detailed technical survey has revealed that the new devices offer significantly superior performance in comparison to the state-of-the-art IGBT devices, in terms of features, performance and cost. In addition, technological advances made in the IGBTs are equally applicable to the new power devices, thus making these new products even more competitive in performance. The funding sought would facilitate development of these devices of a wide range 600 V to 6.5 kV; and through sustained R & D effort, aid power semiconductor manufacturers in the UK and overseas to manufacture and implement aggressive marketing and sales on a royalty basis. The proposed plan contains all aspects of development and manufacturing to realize successful products and advance UK position in innovative power semiconductor manufacturing.
