Summary on Grant Application Form |
We will investigate applying microwave radiation to increase the reaction efficiency and possible selectivity of reaction performed in micro chemcial reactors. The study will initially focus on a hetergenously catalysed aryal cross coupling reaction based on immobilised palladium (the Suzuki reaction) already performed in a micro reactor. This reaction will be carried out in an existing customised fixed frequency (2.45GHz) focused microwave waveguide system. The work will then progress by developing a variable frequency low power microwave system specifically designed for micro reactor applications which will be used to explore a wider range of single and multi phase synthetic reactions.
