Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal represents the extension of a continuing multidisciplinary collaboration between polymer chemists, cell biologists and microfabrication experts at the Universities of Strathclyde and Glasgow. An already extensive knowledge of the fabrication of structured polymer substrates for tissue regeneration, and of cell adhesion to these structures will form the basis of the proposed research. Specifically, the proposed programme seeks to establish a medium scale synthesis facility for the production of a series of potentially valuable polyester materials on a scale suitable for realistic fabrication fiats. Devices from these trials will be characterised chemically, physically and biologically to ensure the optimisation of mechanical properties, lifetime upon implantation and cell response.
